The SEC Challenge will take place on the track in Daugavpils this upcoming Sunday. On Latvian soil, many experienced riders, who have achieved significant success on the international stage, will battle for participation in the TAURON SEC 2024. Who should you keep an eye on?
Anders Thomsen
The Dane has a chance to return to the series after nearly a five-year break. During this time, he has become one of the most spectacular riding riders in the world. Over the last three seasons, he has been a regular participant in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, where in 2022, he secured victory during the round in Gorzów Wlkp. One thing is certain - if the 30-year-old advances to TAURON SEC 2024, he must be considered as one of the main contenders for the Individual European Championship.
Maciej Janowski
"Magic" needs no introduction. For years, the Pole has remained among the world's best, always striving for top honors, both individually and as part of a team. His consistent participation in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series for nine consecutive seasons, along with winning the bronze medal in the Individual World Championship in 2022, speaks volumes about his consistent performance. Janowski's potential promotion to the TAURON SEC series would be an ideal opportunity for him to return to the FIM SGP lineup next year.
Rasmus Jensen
He continues to improve every year, evident from his performances in the PGE Ekstraliga and as a "wild card" in last year's Grand Prix round in Vojens. As the sixth rider in TAURON SEC 2022, Jensen now has a chance to return to the fray in the Individual European Championships. His strong starting momentum and well-prepared equipment background make him a compelling contender.
Dimitri Berge
Sunday's tournament will mark the Frenchman's third consecutive appearance in the SEC Challenge. His last two editions were successful - he finished each of them on the podium and clinched victory in Nagyhalasz a year ago. Berge began this season impressively as the leader of the team from Krosno and currently boasts the third-highest average in the Metalkas 2.Ekstraliga. Berge's excellent form and extensive experience in the SEC Challenge make him one of the top candidates for promotion to the main series.
Mateusz Cierniak
Since his debut season among seniors, the Pole has achieved several notable results. His fifth-place finish in the prestigious Golden Helmet and a flawless victory in the TAURON SEC qualifying round in Krsko position him as one of the favorites for the upcoming cycle. The question remains: will the two-time U21 Individual World Champion rise to the challenge? If he performs at his best, anything is possible.
