It's tomorrow, when in Hungarian Debrecen, 16 riders will fight for 4 spots opening the gates for SEC Challenge. Patryk Dudek, Junior World Champion 2013 seems like a main favourite in this round.
What makes speedway in Güstrow is so popular?
- Firstly I think the main thing is the track. It is short and has an unusual shape and many different lines you can race on. Usually the races are not over until the last corner. Also the crowd is pretty close to the track which makes a good atmosphere.
Maciej Janowski and Maksym Drabik is the speedway duo, which joined the School of Champions program, held under the auspices of Lotto. Both teams are members of National Polish Speedway Team, which will challenge the rest of the world at PGE Narodowy (Warsaw) on May 15. The best Polish rider in Speedway Euro Champiuonship is reducing his starts by decreasing its number in the foreign leagues. In 2016, "Koldi" will start only in Polish league and SEC.
Throughout three years of reformed Individual European Championship, there have been riders from 11 counties. The biggest amount of them so far was Poland's domain, however its' representatives haven't been able to stand on the podium.
Until implementing the new formula of Individual European Championship, which is till 2013, Poland was first in the overall medal classification. Since it has been changed and significantly strenghtened, the white and red have got a problem with reaching any medal. The best among Poles is so far Janusz Kołodziej, who has secured his spot in SEC twice. Unfortunately, each time, it was a fight for survival, not for the podium stand.
It is said that, it's good to start your battle well in the series, to gain an advantage and show the rivals good form. When it comes to Speedway Euro Championship though, winning the first round wouldn't give the ultimate triumph...
