Kai Huckenbeck is the only rider who took part in every SEC round held in Güstrow. On his favorite track, the German has repeatedly proved that he is capable of fighting for the highest positions. Another chance for Huckenbeck to stand up on the podium in front of his own fans comes on August 5th.
Huckenbeck made his debut in the Individual European Championship series in 2014 in Güstrow. He took part as a reserve rider. He made his first full-time appearance two years later, thanks to a 'wild card' received from the series' organizers. The German made perfect use of the opportunity, finishing on a high third place. Huckenbeck was close to the podium a year later, but due a fall in the 'last chance heat' he couldn’t advance to the final.
- I have very good memories from these two rounds, which were held here in 2016 and 2017. I hope that this time, I will be able to go even better and stand on the podium in front of the German fans once again - said 'Hucki'.
The track in Güstrow has its own specific nature. It features track material that is rare these days, while the starting machine is located at the exit of the second corner. Huckenbeck points out the special features of one of his favorite tracks.
- It's an interesting oval. It seems really easy to ride on it, but it is much harder to ride here quickly and efficiently. The track offers many fast lines, which makes the spectacle even better - he stresses.
The first round of TAURON SEC 2023 didn't go his way. The German representative scored six points in five starts, and he's currently eleventh in the interim classification. According to the 30-year-old rider, his performance in Częstochowa would be much better, if not the controversial exclusion in his second start.
- In fact, due to the exclusion I lost three points. If it wouldn't happen, I'd be fighting for a place in the 'last chance' heat. My main goal remains the same - to finish in the top five, to secure a spot in the next year's series.
This is the ninth time Germany will host a round of the Individual European Championship. So far, seven rounds have been held in Güstrow, while Landshut were hosting SEC in the year 2015. How is German speedway currently doing? Huckenbeck stresses that his home country needs much more such events.
- Speedway isn't too popular in Germany. However, we have some talented young riders who have a lot of potential. I try to support and help them when I can. There are quite a few speedway tracks in my country. In my opinion, we need even more meetings like TAURON SEC. People would see how interesting speedway is - Huckenbeck ended.
