Norick Blödorn has received a "Wild Card" for the competition in Güstrow. The young rider will be the second German, after Kai Huckenbeck, to compete in front of his home crowd during the round of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship.
Blödorn is a great hope for German speedway. Last year he won the individual German championship as the youngest rider in the history. His appearance in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will mark Norick's first start in the European Championship series. He is very excited about upcoming new challenge ahead.
- For sure it's pretty exciting because it's my first time to compete in such a big individual meeting. I had some experience in the SoN [Speedway of Nations] in the last two years, but I think it will definetly be a different challenge when I’m riding for myself – said Blödorn.
This season, he competes in two leagues. The first is the British Premiership, where he represents the Belle Vue Aces for the second year, defending the championship title won in the previous season. He also rides for the Landshut Devils in the Polish second division. The increasing experience gained will certainly allow the young German to fight on the track in Güstrow.
- I know most of the riders from the League races in Poland and Great Britain so I know I'm able to beat them. Everything can happen in speedway nowadays so we will see.
In addition to team competitions, the 20-year-old is a regular participant in the SGP 2 series. After two rounds, he currently holds seventh place in the standings. His best performance in the Individual Junior Championships was in Gorzów Wielkopolski. At the Edward Jancarz Stadium, Blödorn came close to reaching the final but finally finished third in the semifinal. Although he was a reserve rider in this year's round of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Teterow, Germany, he did not have the opportunity to compete on the track.
The wild card given to the 2003-born rider presents a unique opportunity for him to showcase his high skills. German fans and the track, where Norick has had many opportunities to compete, can help him in confirming his potential. Will he be the revelation of the event? It promises to be a very exciting spectacle! This is also what Blödorn is counting on.
- Overall I think it will be a brilliant experience for me at my age. For sure one day I want to become a full time rider in the series, so it's good to get to know how it's like compiting in that event. I will try my best. I know it won't be easy but it would be great to beat some big names – ended Norick.
The reserve riders for the event will be two Germans: Lukas Baumann and Ben Ernst. They have already had the opportunity to compete in the SEC round in Guestrow, which took place two years ago. Ernst earned three points in five starts, while Baumann secured one point.
Tickets for the second round of the TAURON SEC 2023 are available for purchase at www.mcguestrow.de and speedwayeuro.com. The first race of the competition is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
