Tomasz Gollob was the first rider, who had received the SEC wild card right before the season started. 18 points and 13th place would not impress anyone, but one's got to remember that the best Polish rider achieved this result in only two rounds.
During the 2014 season, Gollob didn't amaze, had some decent races though, but this spark that brought him to the World Champion title did not appear. This season, it was about to change. At the track he has known perfectly (Motoarena in Toruń) Gollob performed beyond expectations. Only 6 points reached didn't lead him to the race-off heat and therefore prevented him from fight for the rostrum.
Before the second round in Landshut, Gollob changed his silencers (from Poldem to King) and the effect was staggering. From the very beginning of the round in Bavaria, Gollob impressed fans with his speed and bravery. After 2 starts, he stayed unbeaten. In his 3rd, he got the engine failure and had to pull off the track. Next races proved that Tomasz would fight for the ultimate win. 4 individual heats let him advance directly to the final. And there...
controversy appeared. After the start, Gollob and Pedersen's bikes got linked together and Dane fell on the track. Marek Wojaczek, who was a referee during that meeting stopped this heat instantly. After few minutes of video analysis, decided to... exclude Pole from the heat's repeat. That caused quite a consternation in the pits. Noone was suspecting that kind of solution, including Gollob.
Despite a telephone talk with the referee, Gollob couldn't influence his decision and just had to accept the fact he would not start in the final. As it turned out later, it was the last heat of "Skinny" in SEC 2015. However, he checked-in in Kumla, Gollob did not appear at the track even once. Pole was replaced by Joel Andersson (in Kumla) and Piotr Pawlicki (in Ostrów Wielkopolski).
Recently, Gollob admitted that back's surgery went well and in the next season, we'll be able to watch Tomasz at the Polish and maybe international tracks. Will he start in next SEC edition? Time will tell...
