He began his career by starting at mini speedway. In 1995 he was the individual champion of Denmark in this kind of speedway (designed for riders under 16). One year later he became Danish Champion U21 in classic speedway. In 2004 he won the bronze medal in Individual European Championships during the one-day final in Danish Holsted. He was beaten then by Matej Zagar and Matej Ferjan.
From the beginning of the career Andersen has had a very distinctive style of riding with his elbows raised, hence his nickname "Ugly Duck". In 2006 Dane didn’t start in Grand Prix as a permanent participant. But he received a "wild card" on performance in Danish GP. Andersen won the tournament, becoming the third rider, who won Grand Prix round without being a permanent participant in the series.
Andersen was also a permanent participant of Speedway Euro Championship in 2013 so in the first season after the introduction of the new formula by One Sport. Finally, with 35 points he finished in fourth place in the final classification of the series. In 2015 took 9th place with 25 points. He got promotion to the SEC 2016 after good performance in SEC Challenge - Olching, Germany.
