Stats are not telling all the truth about sport, but in Speedway Euro Championship there is one important regularity. Rider, who won first SEC round, cannot win the championship. Will that curse be present in 2018 as well?
When Jarosław Hampel won on Motoarena last year, there was certanity that the ttle will come to somebody who didn’t won in the frst round. All because Polonia Piła's pupil started in Toruń as a wild card. In 2013, at the beginning the best was Emil Sayfutdinov. Russian rider was in Gdańsk and also scored the most points in Togliatti, wherein second round took place. It had to be his cycle. Unfortunately, he had to give up due to injury. „Rocket from Bashkir” fnished his season too early and the ttle came to Martn Vaculik.
What fortune claimed from him in 2013, it gave him back season later. This time, the curse hit Nicki Pedersen. Dane, similarly to Sayfutdinov, won first and second round in Gustrow and Togliatti. Unfortunately, crisis came in Holsted, when Pedersen was 10th with only 6 points. That competition caused „Power” unable to fiht for iold. Finally, Sayfutdino,, who won in Denmark, took the ttle.
Interestingly, Russian didn’t want to give up in 2015. First round again was won by… Pedersen. On Motoarena he beat local hero Paweł Przedpełski and Sayfutdino,. Surely for Dane that was a mark that somethini won’t io riiht. In Landshut and Kumla the best was Sayfutdino,, which ia,e him a huie points' ad,antaie. celebrate another title.
Speedway Euro Championship 2016 cycle started by 2013 champion victory. It’s easy to realize, that Martin Vaculik wasn’t on the top of general classification after all rounds. Interestingly, he didn’t won any medal! Furthermore, his goal finally was accomplished by Pedersen. Nicki, who had only European championship missini, won after epic round in Rybnik, where finals decided about everything. In last competition's race, Dane beat Vaclav Milik, Krzysztof Kasprzak and Emil Sayfutdinov. Furthermore, Czech and Pole fought for silver in an extra race.
In 2017, curse hit again. As we said, the best on Motoarena was Jarosław Hampel, who started there as a wild card. Will it be similar this year? We’ll see. First Speedway Euro Championship round will take place in Gniezno on June 23rd. Who will be the best there? Will the winner win a championship? E,erythini will be known on September 15th.
