September 2018 will bring a comeback of big speedway to the Stadion Śląski (Silesian Stadium). On 15th of September in Chorzów (Poland), we will get the name of Individual European Champion. Preparations for this day have been progressing for months.
This project is held under auspicies of One Sport, for whom, it will be the biggest challenge of their career so far. SEC series, which 6th edition is coming next year, hasn't been hosted on such a huge venue. What's more, this stadium doesn't have a permanent, natural speedway track.
- Speedway on Śląski is a huge challenge for us. However, we've been facing other ones for 5 years now. First one was giving birth to SEC project, then heading to Russia and organizing one of its rounds in Togliatti. Now, we're facing the biggest challenge of all - Speedway Euro Championship on the legendary Stadion Śląski - Karol Lejman, President of One Sport.
Press conference, which was taken on the Stadion Śląski, however, was not the beginning of organization of SEC final round and National Polish Team's friendly match, but preparations for this project have been progressing for a long time.
- It's been months now. Still, there's nearly a one year left and lots of work, so we want to take care of every small detail - Karol Lejman.
One Sport will take over the stadium in the beginning of September 2018 and will have it for a whole month. This time should provide calmness when it comes to building a track, but most importantly - create a chance to test it before the final round of Speedway Euro Championship and clash between National Polish Team and Rest of The World.
- Speedway will be present on Stadion Śląski for the whole September. Venue will be in our disposition for a whole month. Surface will be granite and track's length will be around 360-370 meters. What's important, it'll not be a mobile track, which has to be moved quickly. Track will be put at least 7-10 days before these meetings, so we'll be able to have tests on it. We'll also have a special cover to protect it from rain - Jan Konikiewicz, Vice-President of One Sport.
