Kai Huckenbeck ended his racing in second round of Speedway Euro Championship with drama. Local favourite fell in the race-off heat, in which he was leading.
For the second time, SEC series visited Güstrow and once again, Kai Huckenbeck was the "wild card" for this round. In 2016, German rider had a great performance, finishing at 3rd position, losing only to Martin Vaculik and Krzysztof Kasprzak.
This year's rivalry on this specific track in Güstrow had promised to be spectacular and after last success, Kai Huckenbeck was one of the candidates to stand on the podium.
Everything was going the right way. German rider presented not only an effective, but also impressive racing, which brough him standing ovations from the crowd. Huckenbeck ended the main series with 12 points gathered and only because of less heat wins than Artem Laguta and Andzejs Lebedevs, he did not go directly through to the final. In the race-off heat, German faced Krzysztof Kasprzak, Vaclav Milik and Mateusz Szczepaniak. After start, Huckenbeck was leading and only a catastrophe could've taken away his advance to the final. At the end of the first corner, 24-y.o. rider hit a rock, which made his bike lifted and Kai fell on the track, ending his racing on that day.
- I hit a rock on the first corner. That was my road to the podium. That's just speedway and there's nothing more left than get myself together and go on - Kai Huckenbeck said.
Despite his fall, Huckenbeck sees positive aspects of his performance. Looking at his score, German would've been third.
- 12 points is a good result. I should've been in the final, maybe I'll be able to do that next time - Huckenbeck ended.
