Martin Smolinski's been a permanent participant of Speedway Euro Championship twice and in both cases, hasn't reached positions he had counted on. His best result throughout these two seasons was 5th location in Kumla (2015).
German has received the wild card twice. Despite some great single heats, he wasn't able to reach the great final. Martin was just inches away from doing so in Kumla, during the third round of SEC 2015 (got defeated by Nicki Pedersen and Grigorij Laguta).
In 2016, Martin Smolinski will get a chance to compete in SEC again. However, he has to go through qualifications and secure his spot in the SEC Challenge, which will take place at his track - in Olching. Smolinski knows this object very well, he was literally raised there. Therefore, it shouldn't be a mystery for him and this can give him significant advantage. Naturally, there's a long way to this stage, but surely German can be treated as one of the favourites to advance.
German's aim? Surely being in the top half of the overall classification. Smolinski won the world championship's round, went elbow to elbow with the world's top rider, so that's what he'll want to prove in SEC. Will he manage to do that and fulfill his and his fans' dreams? We've got to wait for the answer till may.
