It's official! Daugavpils will host the second round of Speedway Euro Championship, which will take place on August 6, 2016. It'll be their debut in the series organized by One Sport. Fans gathered at Lokomotive Stadions have already had a chance witness SEC qualifications both in 2014 and 2015. What's interesting, winners of these qualification rounds didn't advance to the main series. In 2014, it was taken by Michael Jepsen Jensen and in 2015 by Piotr Pawlicki. As we all know, both of these riders weren't able to participate in SEC.
Lokomotiv Daugavpils is the team that rides on this stadium on the daily basis and from 2005 they've been a part of the... Polish league. In 2015, Latvian team reached the best result in their history of riding in Poland. Team, led by Nikolaj Kokin got the triumph in Nice Polska Liga Żużlowa, however they weren't able to fill some regulation requirements to get the licence for starts in Ekstraliga.
Stadium in Daugavpils was the stadium, where in the past, World Championship rounds were held. It's not a mystery that it's Grigorij Laguta, who's getting the best times there (and by the way, he lives right around the corner, few kilometers from the stadium). Older Laguta brother also holds the track's record (66,01 seconds (May 30, 2010)). It was his third record ever there.
If "Grisha" will participate in Speedway Euro Championship next year, he'll surely be one of the main favourites to reach the ultimate win in this round.
