Before the last round of Speedway Euro Championship 2013 in Rzeszów, Nicki Pedersen had a few-point advantage over the rest of the stake and everyone was thinking, who would reach the silver medal. Dane's another advantage was the knowledge of local track. However, it was Martin Vaculik who owned that evening.
Slovakian impressed everyone with his speed right from the very beginning and with every next heat was getting closer to Nicki Pedersen, who was having a slightly worse day. When after heat no. 17 in the direct battle between them, Vaculik was on top, fans felt that it could be a historical evening.
Dane was excluded from this heat, but still had chances for the gold. All he had to do is advancing to the great final and to do that, he had to go through the race-off heat (from 1st or 2nd place).
In this heat, though, Grzegorz Zengota and Hans Andersen came before Dane. After that, many riders started congratulating Vaculik. He was taking these moods down, though and asked to wair for the last heat. He was right in fact, because in its first attempt, serious collision occured in which luckily Vaculik didn't participate. In the repeat, Martin put a stamp on his great success. He finished as first for the sixth time on that evening and became the first rider in SEC history who made that. What's more, he made the history also because of becoming the European Champion in the reformed cycle. It was a great, but a cold night in Rzeszów.
