Six point loss to the leader of Speedway European Championships is much but Nicki Pedersen wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t put everything on one card and didn’t fight for the title which was taken from him by Martin Vaculik at the very last moment.
Nicki, six point loss before the last tournament is much or not?
- For sure it's a big gap to pull back in one meeting, but we saw how quickly it can change after Holsted, so the same can happen again.
Do you believe that Emil Sajfutdinow can be beaten and you will manage to win European Champion title?
- Of course Emil can be beaten, but he is not the only rider. I will concentrate on myself, and try to win all my races, and then at the end we will see how the points add up.
Everybody in Holsted expected your another win but your score wasn’t satisfactory. Was it because of rain?
- That was a very strange weekend, and one that I have already forgotten all about.
You are coming back after quite bad injury. Does it interrupt you during the fight on a track in some sense?
- Of course it's never easy trying to recover from an injury, but I have worked really hard with my physio in Denmark, and I'm happy with the progress we have made.
I guess it happened at the very worst moment, right?
- There is never a good time for an injury, but yes.
The beginning of the season in SEC was great for you. Two starts, two wins after which the great happiness could be seen. What was the key to win in Gustrow and Togliatti?
- Everything just clicked into place. My equipment, my team, and myself. All the pieces of the puzzle have to come together, and when they do, great things can happen.
We are before the last tournament in Częstochowa so the city where you used to ride. Do you like that track?
- Yes I like the Czestochowa track, and I always look forward to going back there.
The final round of SEC might be very important for the club from Częstochowa which has quite serious problems. Do you, I mean riders, pay attention on this fact?
- We all talk when we travel and wait around at the airports, and speedway is a small family, so yes, all the riders know about this sad situation. I hope they can get it sorted out.
Do you have some tested methods to prepare in a proper way for such important event?
- Of course, but I can't tell you what they are (laugh)
Nicki, if you were asked by a fan why he should come to see September tournament, how would you encourage him?
- This is speedway, fast bikes with no brakes, sideways at 100kmph shoulder to shoulder in a 4 lap sprint race. What more encouragement do you need to come and check it out?
