The supporters in Poland are waiting 42 years for the next polish team succes in international pair riding. On 8th June on Motoarena in Eurosport Speedway Best Pairs tournament „the Eagles” will be the favourites of this cup and will have to handle the pressure of the results which people are expecting from them.
First and only „gold” was won for Poland in 1971 by Jerzy Szczakiel - Andrzej Wyglenda pair on a track in Rybnik. The crowd on a stadium were rubbing their eyes when they saw how hosts duet was winning with the favourites from New Zealand: Ivan Mauger and Barry Briggs.
- I remember this competition as if it was yesterday. Afternoon 11th July 1971, very warm. Great atmosphere. I started and it was one of the best moments in my career. The most important thing is that we had motorcycles tuned to the track perfectly. Beside that everyone of us knew what to do - says Szczakiel.
This time about the strength of polish team will be determined by: Tomasz Gollob, Jarosław Hampel and Adrian Miedziński. All of them are presenting high form in this league season. Jarek and Tomasz are presenting a little bit worse form in Grand Prix cycle. The trio announced that they will fight for a highest step of a podium on Eurosport Speedway Best Pairs tournament. - We'll try to do our best and fight for the victory. For the attractivenes of this show it should be big event, because the cooperation on the track will play an important role and supporters will surely have something to watch - thinks Hampel.
Tomasz Gollob announces fight for a victory on 8th June. - We're like Poles going to war – we can unite. It's an art of pair or team riding. We're helping each other and cooperating all the time. It's not the fight of one rider, because whole team is working for a result - says the rider that is known of his great pair riding abilities .
Knowledge of a track and polish crowd in great majority - it will be the main advantages of Marek Cieślak's team in Toruń. We'll know soon if this assets will be used properly.
