One Sport as the promoter of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship series, along with FIM Europe have announced that the Grand Finale of next year's Individual European Championship will be held at the Slaski Stadium in Chorzów. Speedway will return to the "Cauldron of Witches" after a five-year hiatus.
The TAURON Speedway Euro Championship is a four-round series of tournaments in which riders compete for the title of Individual European Champion and for a spot in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix. After two consecutive finals which took place in 2018–2019, the organizers decided that once again the Silesia Stadium will host the best riders of the Old Continent in the final round of TAURON SEC.
- We are returning to Slaski Stadium because the Individual European Champion deserves to receive the trophy in front of tens of thousands of fans. Silesia is a region where fans love speedway, so the idea of bringing them all together to the stands of this legendary stadium seems right. With two finals held at the Slaski Stadium in recent years, we are convinced that next year's tournament, both in terms of sport and organization, will take place at the highest possible level - said Karol Lejman.
Both tournaments held at the Slaski Stadium will forever go down in the history of the Individual European Championships because of the events that took place at this spectacular arena. In 2018, fans gathered in the stands, as well as in front of TV screens, witnessed a perfect performance from Leon Madsen, who sealed his first championship title by scoring the maximum of points.
- It's fantastic news that the Speedway Euro Championship is returning to the Slaski Stadium after a five-year break. This is a legendary venue for the Polish speedway. The first gold medal for Poland was won by the irreverent Jerzy Szczakiel in Chorzów 50 years ago. I'm really built up by this news because I remember the SEC events held in 2018 and 2019. I'm glad that the SEC series is still growing and the promoters are looking for opportunities to provide fans and riders with unforgettable memories. I am already looking forward to September 21 - said the President of FIM Europe, Michał Sikora.
A year later we saw the amazing duels for medals between Mikkel Michelsen and Grigory Laguta as well as between Leon Madsen and Kacper Woryna. The defending champion faced the Pole in the extra race for the bronze medal. Woryna led for three laps, but an engine failure deprived him of a chance to fight the Dane. In the race for gold, Michelsen took advantage of Laguta's mistake, overtook him and became the gold medalist of the TAURON SEC 2019 series.
- It was a great experience to be able to ride in front of such a large audience. The track was very well prepared, so we could race without any problems. The idea of returning to this stadium was great - Michelsen said after one of the tournaments.
