Mikkel Michelsen became the winner of the final round of TAURON SEC 2019, which was taken at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów (Poland). Michelsen got 15 points, which made him equal Grigorii Laguta's score in the overall classification. In the additional heat, it was Dane, who defeated Russian and ultimately ended as the new European Champion.
After two first rounds of TAURON SEC 2019 series, Michelsen was far away overall, having 15 points gathered and there was clearly no sign of anything that could have been changing, but in Vojens, Dane got 15 points in... six heats and won the third round of Euro Championship.
- I don't know how did it happen. It was supposed to be kind of a test day, but I managed to win. It's something incredible - Michelsen said.
Thanks to his phenomenal performance in Vojens, Michelsen came to Chorzów as a third rider overall, being four points down behind the leader - Grigorii Laguta. At the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Dane showed some great racing, confirmed by five individual wins in the whole round. Thanks to his win in the final heat, where Laguta did not appear, he equaled Russian's score and the matter of gold was decided in the additional heat.
- Unbelievable. I don't know what to say. It's a bit emotional for me. Through the whole year, we've been working so hard. Beginning was tough, but last two rounds were amazing. Two wins and the Euro Champion title, it's amazing. This is speedway - here, anything can happen. You've seen it in this extra heat with "Grisha". I thought it would've been hard to catch him, but I knew I just have to do everything I can. "Grisha" made a mistake and I was exactly where I should've been - Dane added.
Michelsen underlines a huge impact of his mechanics on this road to reach for gold.
- I couldn't have done it without my mechanics, who have been working so hard through the whole season. I would like to thank Krzysztof and Mateusz, because it's them, who had spent hours to make everything work as it should be. No one thinks about it, no one sees it, but without them, I wouldn't be racing. This victory is just as much for me as it is for them - Individual European Champion 2019, Mikkel Michelsen ended.
