Every final round consists of 22 heats. After the regular phase of the tournament – 20 heats, in which every riders meets each other – two best riders ensure themselves the participation in the great final. Riders classified on place from third to sixth take part in the last chance heat in which they can assure two other places in the final. Of course they are won by the first and second rider of “last chance heat”.

Points scored in a last chance heat are not taken into consideration as far as general classification is concerned. It is different from the great final. Its winner wins additional three points, the second rider has two and the third gets one. In case of winning all heats a participant of a tournament can win 18 points which are taken into consideration in general classification. The one who gathers most points after four final rounds wins Individual European Champion title.
