Adam Ellis: We are all capable of more

Adam Ellis came back for SEC series this year. He knows that him and his team perform well.

How did it happen that you were born in France? Some fans are still surprised by that fact.

My parents simply moved there before I was born. I also grew up there, but there was and still is English blood running through my veins. After all, my parents are English.

How did you feel when you received a wildcard for this year's SEC series?

I was really happy. I was frustrated when the meeting in Lonigo was brought to an early end. I was only one point away from the top six, so I really wanted that qualification. I am grateful to the organisers for noticing me and giving me this opportunity. The first round was difficult, but it was a new track for me and I didn't feel completely comfortable there. We still have three rounds to go and I want to improve.

You are not a debutant, as you already competed in the SEC series in 2022 and 2023. What has changed since then?

My mindset. I feel more confident, I know what I am doing and I know that I am good at it. I am always striving to improve as well. It has taken me a few years to reach my current level in several areas. Wherever I saw weaknesses, I tried to address them.

You made a good start in Zielona Góra, but then everyone was passing you down the back straight. It wasn't as if you were off the pace from the beginning, but something went wrong after the first corner. How big is the difference between a rider from the KLŻ and those competing in the Ekstraliga?

We simply screwed up the settings. The first heat was very good and my pace was solid. As I mentioned, it was my first time racing in Zielona Góra and every heat was basically one big guessing game for us. We went in the wrong direction with the setup. It was bad luck, and on top of that I made a few mistakes myself. I know we are all capable of more.

The last few weeks in the league have also been very successful for you. You scored 20 points against Ipswich Witches and 17+1 in the KLŻ semi-final in Gniezno in fairly difficult conditions. It has been a good run.

I feel great on the bike this year. I am happy with my bikes and with my team as well. They are doing a fantastic job. We are consistent in what we do, and every new meeting is a new challenge. I always want to win, just like everyone else.

The second round will take place in Güstrow. The track is less than 300 metres long, and it also has a rather unusual start/finish line location. Could you say that it is a British-style track?

Not really. Obviously, it is a unique stadium and there aren't many tracks like it. The stadium provides plenty of racing, so both the fans and us riders are always looking forward to going there. The fans really live and breathe the sport, there is never a dull moment in the stands, so I can't wait for this round.
