Two rounds of competition have already taken place, in Debrecen and Grudziądz. Both in Hungary and Poland, fans witnessed exciting spectacles and surprising outcomes.
For the first time in history, the Individual European Championships visited Hungary, with the tournament in Debrecen kicking off the battle for the title of the best speedway rider in Europe and a spot in the 2025 Speedway Grand Prix lineup. From the start, the track favored the 2017 SEC champion, Andzejs Lebedevs. The Latvian rider advanced directly to the final after the main series, where he scored 14 points. In the final, after a close race with Maciej Janowski, Lebedevs crossed the finish line first, securing his first-ever victory in a single round of the TAURON SEC. Unexpectedly, Jacob Thorssell, who replaced the injured Dimitri Berge, made it to the podium. The two-time Individual European Champion Leon Madsen had a less successful start to his TAURON SEC 2024 campaign, finishing the round in Debrecen in twelfth place.
Interestingly, Madsen did not start well in Grudziądz either, where he finished last in his first heat. The winner of the 2018 TAURON SEC Grand Final in Chorzów quickly got back on track thanks to adjustments to his bike’s setup, which led to progressively better performances in his subsequent races. By the end of the event in Grudziądz, he had lost only one point, and after winning the final, he could celebrate his 12th career victory in a TAURON Speedway Euro Championship round. Kacper Woryna finished second at Venture Industries Arena. The 28-year-old rider led the standings after the main series but had to concede to Madsen in the decisive race. The third spot on the podium was taken by Piotr Pawlicki, who performed excellently that day.
Heading into Saturday's third round of the Individual European Championships, Andzejs Lebedevs leads the interim standings with 24 points. Kacper Woryna holds the same number of points as the Latvian. Piotr Pawlicki, with one point less, rounds out the top three in the standings. Riders like Mikkel Michelsen, Leon Madsen, and Maciej Janowski remain in contention for the medals.
