Andzejs Lebedevs took the win in the inaugural round of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2024, which was held in Debrecen. Despite being one of the most experienced riders in the series, this was his first victory in the history of the Individual European Championship.
The 2017 Individual European Champion delivered an almost perfect performance. He lost points only in his first start, but secured victories in his next five.
- Debrecen is a special place for me. I've had a lot of success at this track, so I'm super happy that it was here that I won my first TAURON SEC event. It's been a very long time since I won any competitions individually - said Lebedevs.
Numerous fans gathered in the stands experienced the greatest excitement in the final race. Lebedevs had a fantastic starting reaction, but he was continuously chased by Maciej Janowski, who waited for any mistake by the Latvian. This mistake came on the first corner of the second lap, allowing "Magic" to take the lead. However, Lebedevs fiercely pressured the titled Pole, and his efforts paid off. On the third lap, he overtook Janowski and maintained the lead until the end of the race.
- When Maciej overtook me in the final, I stopped believing in victory for a moment. But then he made a mistake, which I managed to capitalize on. It was great that my bike held up and I grabbed the win - said Lebedevs.
After the inauguration of the TAURON SEC 2024, Lebedevs leads the interim standings of the series. The Latvian holds a five-point lead over Maciej Janowski, who is second in the table, placing him in a strong position in the fight for the championship title.
