Leon Madsen became the 2022 Individual European Champion. In Pardubice, the Dane reached for his second TAURON SEC's gold and now has the same number of titles as Mikkel Michelsen and Emil Sayfutdinov.
It was a fascinating battle about the gold, which was decided during the last heat of the whole series. The difference between gold and silver medallists reached one point in favour of the Dane, but - for the most of the tournament in Pardubice - Madsen was three points behind Kołodziej.
- It was a very though night. We were struggling at the beginning of the meeting with the set-up. It's a cool racing track, but it's also important to find a right set-up. Luckily, we managed to do that on time.
The first duel between two main candidates to the title was held in heat 17, in which Madsen crossed the finish line ahead of Kołodziej. It was clear, that both will race in the 'last chance' heat, because Michelsen and Kubera advanced directly to the final. Before the barrage, the Pole took gate A, while Madsen had to take B.
- I knew, I have to 'close the door' to Kołodziej and I managed to that, so he didn't make it to the final.
Madsen won the 'last chance' heat and advanced to the final, while Kołodziej crossed the finish line as the third, which meant, everything was up to Leon.
In the last heat of the TAURON SEC 2022 cycle, Michelsen was on the lead, while Madsen was fighting with Daniel Bewley. The title defender took the first place, Madsen was second and became the Individual European Champion.
- I'm proud of that title. If I will 'finish the job' in Toruń and become the vice-world champion, I would say season 2022 was really successful.
