Leon Madsen won the inaugural round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship, which was held in Rybnik on Saturday. The Dane made not the best start to the competition, but then it only got better. The best evidence is the fact that he won the next five races in a row.

As always, Madsen is among the main candidates to win the gold medal of the Individual European Championship. The Dane has won in Rybnik's rounds twice - in 2020 and 2021 - so it seemed that he would be fighting for another victory from the start. Interestingly, he had just one point after two series.

- It starts to being a trend this year, that I have bad beginning of the meeting, but then I'm finding a solution. It's always about to finish well, not start well - said.

The breakthrough came in the third series, in which Madsen won race 12. The Dane found the right set-up, as both his speed and his advantage over his rivals showed. It is worth to mention, that Madsen was the first rider to beat Mikkel Michelsen that day.

The 10 points scored in the main round were not enough to advance directly to the final, so the Dane, once again, fought in the "last chance heat", in which he had a great duel with Patryk Dudek.

Last year's TAURON SEC medallists - Michelsen, Madsen and Dudek met in the final, with Poland's representative Janusz Kołodziej completing the line-up. The TAURON SEC 2018 winner left no illusions to his rivals and reached the finish line as the first. Madsen won in Rybnik for the third time in a row, but he will go to Gustrow with one point loss to leaders, Michelsen and Kolodziej.

- I'm really happy with my result, and that I won the meeting. Points are alright as well. It could have been a few more, but we are close to the top of European Championship - he added.

The second round of the TAURON SEC 2022 will take place on August 6 in Gustrow. Tickets are available via www.speedwayeuro.com and www.mcguestrow.de.
