By winning the SEC 2021 silver medal, Leon Madsen equalled Nicki Pedersen's achievement and reached for his fourth consecutive SEC medal. In Rybnik the Dane stood on the highest step of the podium, but in the general classification he lost two points to Mikkel Michelsen.
Just like in the previous editions of the series, Madsen was the main candidate for the gold medal of the Individual European Championships. The Dane proved his aspirations already during the first round in Bydgoszcz. Despite a serious crash, the consequences of which he still feels, he stood on the highest step of the podium. In the next rounds, which took place in Güstrow and Gdańsk, he was second.
Before the final round in Rybnik, the 2018 European Champion lost two points to the leaders - Michelsen and Pawlicki. The fight for gold was extremely fierce, and it is worth to mention the fact that in the two duels between Michelsen and Madsen, the older of the Danes won twice. A few moments after Saturday's event Madsen stressed that he will make another attempt to regain the title next year.
- I won two rounds and was second in another two, so if we would have rules like in GP I would be a European Champion. It's not bad. When you take to consider that I had a heavy crash in Bydgoszcz in the first round and I'm still struggling with my knee. I also twisted my knee again, when I went to one of the corners and it’s so painful all the time. I'm not in 100% shape. I can't give my all on the bike. I still need to reach this missing precents to be up there, where I'm fully fit. Staying here with the silver medal, only two points behind the winner is a good achievement and I'm happy about that. I'm gonna come back next year, give my all and going to win the European Championship back again.
The night belonged to Mikkel Michelsen, but we cannot forget to mention that Leon Madsen equaled the achievement of Nicki Pedersen and reached his fourth consecutive Individual European Championship medal. What's more, in the Speedway Euro Championship 2021 the Dane won two rounds and was second in the other two.
- I just proved that I'm on top every year, fighting for gold and I'm happy about that. Especially today, I'm happy with my performance - the way that me and the team worked in the pits. The track was changing a lot, so we had to be clever and we were. It turned out to be great.
