In the coming season fans will again have an opportunity to get excited about the rivalry of speedway national pairs. After the success of the last year edition, One Sport – the organizer of the event has decided to remain with the formula of three tournaments. The first one takes place on the 28th March 2015 at Motoarena. The details were released at Friday’s press conference on which the representatives of all hosts were present.
- Last year Speedway Best Pairs Cup series turned out to be a real success. It was clear that fans missed pair racing and such series woke up sentiments and memories among many of them. The new season 2015 we will start, similarly to last year, from the inauguration at Motoarena in Toruń on the 28th March. Speedway Best Pairs Cup will be opening the international calendar of great racing in season 2015 – announces Karol Lejman, One Sport.
In 2015 the series consists of three rounds and the inauguration is planned on the 28th March in Toruń. Next the riders move to German Gustrow (11. 04.) and everything ends with the tournament in Danish Esbjerg (09. 05.). All Speedway Best Pairs Cup tournaments will be transmitted live on Eurosport to 71 countries in the whole world including the region of Asia, Australia and Pacific countries. Australians, who beat in the general classification Denmark and Poland, will be defending the title.
While I was watching the film which promotes the series I really miss this racing. I am very happy as a President of Toruń with the cooperation with One Sport. I miss the sound of engines, emotions and full stadium. This event has integrated with sports calendar of our city and I am grateful to Karol Lejman and Jan Konikiewicz that they do so much and develop this discipline. I am really happy that we will again host the best riders who will fight in pairs… - said the President of Toruń, Michał Zaleski at the conference.
The winners will be a pair who will gather the most points during the three tournaments. The points in general classification will be given according to scores in each tournament (according to the places: 10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 point).
In comparison to two last years there have been two important changes introduced – the first one concerns scores of a single heat. Traditional scores 3 – 2 – 1 – 0 will be used again. “The formula 4 – 3 – 2 – 0, which we used last year, wasn’t fully accepted, we have analyzed the situation in details and we have decided that it would be better to come back to normal scores. However all the time we will praise cooperation in pairs – in a semi and final in case of a draw 3:3, a win will be given to riders who will be on the second and third place not to individual winner. In such situation simply win the one who will win bonus point” – informed Jan Konikiewicz, One Sport.
The second change concerns the participants – national teams. “This year we have 6 permanent participants – these are national teams of Australia, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the new one USA which is of course led by Greg Hancock. We will also give one wild card per each round – in Toruń the invitation will be given to Latvia, in Gustrow – Germany and the matter of the last participant of the tournament in Esbjerg will be cleared later. It won’t be definitely the national team of the Great Britain – this year we invited Brits again and, although riders and manager Alun Rossiter would like to start, BSPA has informed us that none of British riders will receive permission for starting in Speedway Best Pairs Cup also this season” – added the representatives of the organizer of SBPC.
The total pool of prizes in Speedway Best Pairs Cup is about 900 000 PLN what causes that apart from league, it is the best paid speedway event in the world. The official broadcaster of Speedway Best Pairs Cup series is again Eurosport. The representative of the station, Radosław Jaworski emphasizes that speedway has strongly integrated with the program of the channel and it will be still dominating.
From my point of view as a fan of sport I am very happy with what we have done so far. Transmissions from our tournaments are available in over 70 countries in the world so that’s really great way to promote particular regions. It’s very nice to see that Polish cities can notice this potential. I am also happy that Motoarena will be again shown on our station. The events organized by One Sport encourage average 700 thousand – 1,5 million people in Europe. – added the representative of Eurosport Poland, Radosław Jaworski.
Krzysztof Kasprzak and Grigorij Laguta also showed up at the press conference. They confirmed their start in Speedway Best Pairs Cup 2015 and were telling about the formula and organization of the event enthusiastically.
It’s very nice that I was invited to participate in this event. Of course I want to fight in Polish team for as good score as possible. Let’s hope that we will have the strongest line – up and we will take the Speedway Best Pairs cup from Australians – said Krzysztof Kasprzak.
Last season I wasn’t able to take part in Speedway Best Pairs Cup because of the injury but this season I’m going to ride for the whole season with no problems. I don’t know yet with who I will be riding but I am convinced that all teams will create great show which fans and sponsor will like. – added Grigorij Laguta.
