Vaclav Milik was second in the first round of Speedway Euro Championship 2017. Silver medalist of the Euro Championship 2016 presented some great racing at Motoarena and considering the permanent participants of this year's series, Czech is a current leader.
Milik started this evening perfectly. Two "threes" after two starts made him lead the general classification of Toruń's round. In the later phase of the meeting, European vice-champion from last year, got "zero", which made him unable to go right through to the final heat. In the race-off heat, however, Milik left nothing to his rivals and won in. Final heat of the 1st round ended with a 2nd position for Czech rider and after all he got 12 points to the general classiticaion of the series.
- One week earlier, when I was starting in the league meeting in Toruń, track was totally different. I'm glad that I was able to find right setups in the beginning of the event - Milik said.
Round in Toruń, which gave Milik 12 points to the general classification, made him lead the stake among the permanent participants.
- I feel great. Second position and many points gathered - it's a great beginning for me - Czech rider added.
Milik was one of the biggest sensations of 2016 season, including his silver medal of Speedway Euro Championship. This year, rider from Pardubice is one of the main candidates to dethrone current champion - Nicki Pedersen.
- I will do my best to make the rostrum in Lublin. It will be very hard, because this year's line up is very equal and all of these guys have only one aim - win it. After this round we know a lot, but nothing at the same time. We've got three rounds ahead, in which I'm about to fight for the best possible scores - Milik said.
Second round of SEC 2017 will take place in Güstrow. Milik already have had a chance to start few times at this short track. One year back, during the opening round of the Euro Championship. Czech got 8 points, which gave him 8th position.
- Track is very specific, a short one. I think that I know how to race there and how to set my bikes properly. I'm looking forward to some good result.
Second round of Speedway Euro Championship 2017 comes on July 15 at 5:30 PM CET in Güstrow. Live broadcast on Eurosport 1 at 6 PM CET.
