When Martin Vaculik was winning the first round of Speedway Euro Championship in Güstrow, many people thought it could be Slovakian's year. There were rumours of him following up to his gold medal from 2013. Unfortunately, it didn't go the way "Vacul" wanted.
Inauguration of SEC was fine for him. Vaculik got 12 points in 5 heats and got the direct promotion to the final. However, weather conditions made the meeting stopped and Vaculik didn't have to go at the track to get the trophy in Germany. This win was a really important one, however because of the lack of the final, point difference was not that big.
About the second round in Daugavpils, Vaculik would like to forget. After a not so bad beginning, when he came 2nd, in three next starts did not even get a single point. 2 points from the last series were kind of a solace, but this result was surely not satisfying Vaculik at all. It was way better in Togliatti, though he missed 2 points to get to the race-off heat. It was enough to come second in 20th heat. Unfortunately for Vaculik, he was defeated by Andersen, Lebedevs and Przemysław Pawlicki.
Definitely, the ending of SEC was not the one he dreamed of. After 2 falls in Rybnik, he had to withdraw from the meeting. Ultimately, Vaculik ended with 24 points gathered. In the first round, he was at the top, but ended the series at 12th position. Next year, Vaculik will be fighting for the world champion title. Will he ever be able to be back on the European throne?
