On Tuesday (2nd July) in Gdansk on PGE Arena took place a press conference about the 1st round of this year's Individual European Championships. The first final round will take place on 27th July on Wybrzeze Gdansks team track.
The organizers are happy that one of the rounds could take place in Pomerania. - We are trying to open ourselves for the east direction and Gdańsk is the perfect city for it. Here are the speedway traditions, fans and those facts decided that this will be the place where SEC final round of SEC will start - said Jan Konikiewicz from One Sport company. Gdansks city hall representative didn't hide his satisfaction about this fact too. - We organised many fantastic international events in the past in basketball, football or volleyball and we are happy that speedway will join this group. If supporters will fill the stadium, it will be a sign to make those kind of events on PGE Arena in future too. It's a football stadium but speedway matches could be played there too - added Andrzej Trojanowski, director of Gdansk's president office for sport.
- Totally new and we believe that better side of European Speedway Championships is before us. The names like Tomasz Gollob, Emil Sajfutdinow, or Nicki Pedersen are speedway brands guaranteeing great show and many emotions for the crowd. After qualifications final in Zarnovica we will know almost full squad of the finals, and there is also a wild card - said Karol Lejman from One Sport. Tomasz Gollob spoke with sentiment about a chance to ride in Gdansk. - I started my professional career here and it was a nice period for me. I know this track and I like it. The time is passing and I am glad that I can take a part in this kind of event, because it's a competition for Grand Prix and the formula of this event is very good in my opinion - admitted the rider.
- When I took the position of Wybrzeże's president I was trying to increase the number of people on a stadium. It's getting better and better and it's a proof that Gdańsk need big events, not only national, but international too. Together with One Sport company we are trying to promote European Championships in new formula - said the boss of Renault Zdunek Wybrzeze Gdansk Robert Terlecki. - We hope that many fans will arrive on the first round of SEC and we will give a signal that we are ready to go to the big stadium, like PGE Arena - said Terlecki.
