The legend of Polish speedway and the best rider in Polish history officially resigned from riding in next year Individual World Championships. Although Tomasz Gollob earlier had agreed on the participation in next year Speedway Grand Prix eventually he decided to resign from it. At the same time we want to reassure all fans – Tomasz Gollob is still taking part in Speedway European Championships. Lately Polish rider has accepted wild card given to him by the organizers.
In consideration of earlier rumors about ban from Speedway European Championships for those who ride in Grand Prix, Tomasz Gollob was one of the riders who asked about more respect for those who had built the power of speedway. “We consider the ban for any person from taking part in Championships of a continent as a very bad decision which makes our sport less popular and destroys the chance for promotion it mainly thanks to TV which is broadcasted in 71 countries. We think that such decision is a limit for our freedom.
According to the law in European Union there is a freedom of making the deals and we cannot accept the situation in which we are limited in such unfair way. As the experienced riders who worked a lot to create the image of speedway we expect more respect for the rights from the officials from the World and Europe”.
Tomasz Gollob didn’t send documents which were needed by Grand Prix organizers and this way he resigned from it. “I was thinking about this decision a lot. I had been riding in Grand Prix for 19 years . That’s enough! I’m not 23 years old like new World Champion Tai Woffinden. He and one year older Emil Sajfutinow are at the beginning of their careers and they have to ride in Grand Prix. If I was their age I would surely be in GP. But I’m in totally different situation. Now all my power is concentrated on leagues and tournaments. For this moment I say goodbye for Grand Prix. I would like to ride for two season more in league SEC and other tournaments” – said the 2010 World Champion for daily newspaper “Nowości” from Torun.
