Competition in Croatia has been good for Polish Speedway, and in Gorican wildcard Krzysztof Kasprzak came out on top of the pile, whilst Sebastion Ulamek followed in second place. The final place on the rostrum went to Martin Vaculik who used a battle between Gollob and Kasprzak to move into third position.
This third round of the Speedway European Championship was dominated by Polish riders with no less than 3 reaching the final. The popular Kasprzak crossing the line first in front of Ulamek, and the Slovakian Vaculik in third. The reconstructed and now banked track in Gorican, is situated near the Croatian / Hungarian border. Lining up for this third round of the European Championship were no less than 6 Polish riders, due to the absence of Emil Sayfutdinov, who had triumphed in both of the two previous rounds in Gdansk and Togliatti. Many also commented on Tai Woffinden, as the Brit had a chance to do the double this season, as he was leading the Grand Prix overall, and was just 4 points behind the absent Sayfutdinov in the SEC.
After the last chance race leading up to the final of the SEC in Gorican, Kasprzak and Ulamek had qualified directly, while Gollob, courtesy of his victory in the last chance race was promoted to the final. The line up for that last chance race had been impressive. In addition to the Pole, also at the start were Pedersen, Woffinden, and Vaculik. The final qualifying place was taken by Slovakian Vaculik, Kasprzak, Ulamek, Gollob and Vaculik lined up for the final. Gollob gave up after a poor start whilst Kasprzak and the experienced Ulamek fought hard at the front. The third round of the Speedway European Championship took place on 14th September in Gorican, Croatia. For our speedway team this turned out to be a successful event. The undisputed winner was Krzysztof Kasprzak from Stal Gorzow who scored 15 points, the second place was Sebastian Ulamek with 14 points, and third belonged to Martin Vaculik with 10 points. Tomasz Gollob just missed out on the podium. Coming up next is the European Championship fourth round, which will take place on 29th September at the speedway stadium in Rzeszow. Krzysztof Kasprzak won the third round of the Speedway European Championship in Croatia tonight coming from behind the beat fellow Polish rider Sebastian Ulamek to make it a Polish one two. Kasprzak, who has been in great form of late had a slow start to the round but rallied towards the end with four straight victories to take the win. However, the final was not all plain sailing for him, as he had to overcome a determined Ulamek in the final. Third place was taken by Slovakian star Martin Vaculik and fourth was Polish superstar Tomasz Gollob .
Other Championship contenders, Tai Woffinden of Great Britain and Denmark’s Nicki Pedersen were both eliminated in the 21st race off heat, leaving the championship wide open going into the final round. - worldspeedway.com
