We begin a series of short stories that appeared in various media about the SEC rounds. Today, in the first of them we will look back to the meeting in Gdansk, and recall that Emil Sajfutdinow won from Nicki Pedersen and Tai Woffinden.
"After many years where the top riders consistently boycotted the European Championship, this championship of the Old Continent has finally gained prestige worthy of this type of event. During the first round of the SEC, which was held in Gdansk, the line up included two World Champions - Tomasz Gollob and Nicki Pedersen , as well as Emil Sajfutdinow and Tai Woffinden .

"Amongst the spectators in the stadium was the Mayor of Gdansk Pawel Adamowicz , Mr Leszek Blanik , volleyball player and captain Mariusz Wlazły, Gdansk speedway star Tomas H Jonasson. Laguta had some amazing rides out wide on the track although it was not until the last race he "figured out" the Gdansk surface. The Russian bows out of the competition early, defeated. Had he ridden like that for the whole meeting, he might be have come close at the end of the tournament but instead finished in 14th place . " - sport.trojmiasto.pl
"The start of the “Speedway European Championship” series (SEC) revolutionized the formula and with comparably better line ups than in previous years, the best speedway riders in Europe came together at the stadium in Gdansk, where the first of four rounds was held this year. The winner was - which is not a big surprise - the current Grand Prix leader Emil Sajfutdinow" - motorsport.v10.pl
"Russian Emil Sayfutdinov won the opening round of the rejuvenated Speedway European Championships held in the Polish City of Gdansk on Saturday night. The 23-year-old returned to the international stage in fantastic style after recovering from a broken foot, which he had sustained last month. Sayfutdinov finished second in the standings with 11 points – two behind leader Tomasz Gollob who was in impressive form as he totalled 13 points. Maciej Janowski, Nicki Pedersen, Tai Woffinden & Kjastas Puodzuks all made the race-off following the qualification stages after scoring 10 points each. Former World Champion Tomasz Gollob had this to say before Saturday’s big event “This is a great opportunity for Speedway, this kind of competition is exactly what the sport needed. Our Sport will open to new markets and it will be a great chance for young, ambitious riders to compete with experienced riders." - speedway365.com
