Adrian Miedzinski was the winner of the last round of the Grand Prix Series. The victory is the latest triumph for the wild card rider from Torun.
The World Championship went, as expected, to Tai Woffinden. Jarek Hampel won the silver medal for the second time in his career, and on the final step of the podium was Niels Kristian Iversen.
The most important moment of the Polish Grand Prix occurred in the 5th race, when Tai Woffinden secured the World title. Some distance ahead of Jarek Hampel who was not only being beaten by the Brit, also trailed Adrian Miedzinski, which effectively sealed the triumph for Woffinden.
After crossing the line and realising the title was his, Woffinden did a lap of honour of the Torun Moto Arena and received a standing ovation from the packed crowd. He then rushed to embrace mechanics, friends and family who had all donned t-shirts emblazoned “Tai Woffinden – World Champion 2013”. So the question of the gold medal was quickly answered but there were still the fight for silver to be decided, between Jarek Hampel and NIels Kristian Iversen.
Hampel was resigned to the fact that silver was the most he could get from this year’s Championship, and effectively set about his goal, which he achieved in the 19th heat. Adrian Miedzinski was the lowest scorer going into the final. The start was won by Greg Hancock and Miedzinski was briefly last, but managed to get into third place, before passing Jarek Hampel. But it didn’t stop there as Miedzinski gathered pace lap after lap, and the Unibax Torun rider seized his moment on the third lap when he drove under Greg Hancock to take the lead, which he held to the finish.
