The Speedway European Championship will resume this weekend after a four-week break, and Jan Stæchmann caught up with Nicki Pedersen who is currently in second place in the overall standings.
Nicki has ridden at Gorican many times, and also won a Grand Prix at the venue, so how does he feel about returning to Croatia on Saturday?
“I’m quite excited about going back to Gorican, it’s a pretty cool stadium, and I’ve not been there since they changed the surface, so it’s going to be an interesting practice. I’m looking forward to a bit of nice weather too”
With the unfortunate injury to Emil, and we wish him all the best in his recovery, it does open up the battle a little at the top of the leaderboard.
You are currently in second place, so what are your thoughts on the remaining two rounds?
“My goal is to win. Pure and simple. It’s close at the top of the standings, I’ve delivered consistent performances in the tournament so far, and my plan is obviously to continue that way”.
“Gorican is the one that is slightly unknown, with the new surface, and whether it will ride differently. I’m looking forward to it, to scoring some good points. For the last round at Rzeszow I will know the track, and hopefully my set up will be right, but it won’t be easy. I am hoping my experience at Rzeszow will be an advantage”.
And looking to Rzeszow, this will also bring down the curtain on the first year of the tournament. What are you personal reflections on the inaugural SEC season?
“I think it’s been impressive. It’s the first year, such a big undertaking. It just runs like clockwork, which is very impressive. I don’t know if there are any dramas behind the scenes, but I certainly haven’t see any (smiles). And that is impressive. I have nothing negative to say about it at all, only positive. I support the Series 100%, it’s run very professionally and it’s at a level that I would like to be a part of. Long may it continue”.
