Timo Lahti took second place during the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship round in Gniezno. The result of the Finnish representative should be considered as a big surprise, even more as the day before in Rybnik he took last place with only two points scored.
Lahti takes part in the TAURON SEC cycle as a replacement for the injured Andzejs Lebedevs. During the tournaments in Toruń and Bydgoszcz the Finn proved that his sporting level does not differ from more experienced rivals. In Gniezno, he surprised everyone and finished the meeting on the second place, with 14 points scored.
- That second place tastes so good. Of course I scored just two points in Rybnik yesterday, which wasn't good for me. When I was coming to Gniezno I thought that it can't be much worse than the day before. It wasn't - said Lahti.
After four rounds of the battle for the Individual European Championship title, the Finn has 32 points, which allows him to think about fighting for TOP 5. This guarantees a spot in next year's TAURON SEC series. Thursday's competition was also very important for the local team Start Gniezno, which is Lahti’s home club.
- That round was very important for me. I've done only one meeting here this season and it wasn't the best one for me. After that one tonight, I showed the club what I am able to do here - he ended.
The final round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship will take place on 29th of July in Toruń. Tickets for this event are available via eBilet.pl. The competition starts at 7 PM.
