13 points and the second place on the podium - that is what title defender Mikkel Michelsen achieved during the second round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2020 in Bydgoszcz. The Dane is currently fourth in the interim classification of the cycle.
Last wednesday, during the competition in Bydgoszcz, the current Individual European Champion impressed his fans with spectacular attacks on the track. As he said during the press conference, he had to struggle with his rivals many times in order to find himself on scored positions. Like in Toruń, Michelsen had some problems with starts from the fourth gate, which in the second part of the competition did not lead to many points.
- In the first four heats I’ve had good starts and I was up front but I didn't feel so fast. We did some changes to the bikes. Then I got gate four which was really difficult today, again like in Torun. I managed to get one point there and in the last two races I had no good starts. I had to fight my way between the other riders. I was last on lap number one in the final heat, so it was very important to finish second, get back on the podium and gain a lot of points. - Mikkel Michelsen summed up his performance.
Due to his score and his place in the "last chance" race, the Dane was the last to choose the gate from which he would start in the final race. Michelsen points out that he was surprised by the fact, that nobody decided to choose the third gate, which was left for him.
- I was suprised that gate three was left. Actually gate one and three, because Leon and I was like ‘OK, who is gonna take gate four’. So when I came around and gate three was left I was happy. Unfortunately I’ve had a terrible start again but I'm satisfied, because I gained a lot of points tonight so I can't be to dissapointed about that - Mikkel Michelsen ended.
