From the beginning of its existence, Motoarena in Torun has been hosting riders competing in the Speedway Grand Prix series. This venue is also regularly one of those hosting the Tauron Speedway Euro Championship final rounds. It will be similar this year, with the difference that in Toruń, riders competing for the title of the best in Europe, will appear twice!
Motoarena was not in the original version of the Tauron SEC calendar for the 2020 season. The meetings were to take place in Vojens, Łódź, Goričan and Chorzów respectively. Ultimately, the final competition will not be hosted at any of the above stadiums and all this is obviously related to the coronavirus pandemic, which changed plans for everyone. Organizers managed to rise to the challenge and developed a new calendar in which 5 tournaments will be hosted in only about 3,5 weeks. This is an unprecedented situation and the Individual European Championships will visit Bydgoszcz, Gniezno, Rybnik and twice to Toruń.
Motoarena named after Marian Rose has been the host of the final rounds three times since the beginning of the Tauron SEC series. The first tournament took place there in 2015, followed by every two years. At this stadium have been organized among others already mentioned Speedway Grand Prix rounds and meetings of the Speedway Best Pairs series. This time, due to the situation related to the coronavirus, Toruń was an obvious choice for organizing the competition, and in addition there will be two tournaments. The series will begin round on 4th of July and it will end at the same venue exactly 25 days later. This fact is certainly a good impulse for Toruń supporters, whose team in the 2019 season took last place in league table and left PGE Ekstraliga at least for a year. In this year high-level rivalry will be present in Motoarena twice, thanks to the Tauron SEC finals. After the relevant regulation has been issued by the Polish government, it will be possible for some supporters to be present at the stadium and they will definitely want to take this opportunity.
Five years ago, in the tournament that opened the battle for the title of Individual European Champion, Nicki Pedersen won, before Paweł Przedpełski and Emil Sayfutdinov. Of the three mentioned above only a Dane will participate in this year’s series and he probably wouldn't mind repeating this result in Toruń at least once. Two years later – also in the first final round of the series – Jarosław Hampel won, before Václav Milík and Andzejs Lebedevs. This time the Pole won’t participate but the Czech and Latvian riders will again present at Motoarena, hoping for a similar result. The last time this venue hosted one of the Tauron Speedway Euro Championship rounds on 27th of July 2019. Leon Madsen, Grigorij Laguta and Kacper Woryna were on the podium respectively. Fans will be able to admire all of them this year at the stadium in Toruń.
Motoarena named after Marian Rose is called by many riders the most beautiful stadium in the world and the track is one of the most spectacular. Fans, especially those from Toruń, certainly have a similar opinion about it. This year the venue which is always close to the organizers of the Tauron SEC series, has been awarded in a unique way. Never before two finals have been held at one venue twice in one year. The beginning and the end of this year's battle for the title of Individual European Champion in Toruń could be extremely interesting, and the fans – both in front of TV sets and some in the stands – will certainly witness many interesting races.
