Dane won the round in Chorzów and after that, defeated Grigorii Laguta in an additional heat, decisive for the title. Locals' favourite - Kacper Woryna had a bad luck with engine's failure, which took bronze medal away.
In the main series, surprisingly it was Paweł Przedpełski leading the whole stake. Polish international impressed the crowd with a phenomenal starting moment, which gave him three heat wins.
Mikkel Michelsen was just as good as Pole, finishing the main series with 12 points gathered.
- One year ago, 12 points didn't give me a direct promotion to the final heat. In the race-off, I didn't do well and wasn't able to fight for a medal. Now, these 12 points have a totally different meaning - Michelsen said.
Grigorii Laguta started this meeting from "zero", but three next heat wins let Russian rider go through to the race-off, where he was third. In case of Michelsen's win in the final, title would be decided in an additional heat. That's exactly what happened. Michelsen came as first, having Madsen and Przedpełski behind his back.
Next to an additional heat for gold, fans witnessed another one - for bronze, where Kacper Woryna faced Leon Madsen. Throughout two laps, it was Pole who had been closer to the medal, but his engine's failure made Madsen reach for it.
- I am really happy that I managed to reach for this medal. In my situation, bronze was the top thing I could've reached for. Next year, I'm coming back stronger and healthy in 100% - Madsen said.
In the main heat of the night we had a battle for gold - Michelsen versus Laguta. First lap belonged to Russian, but his mistake on the second corner was quickly used by Dane, which let Dane become the new king of Europe.
- We have worked really hard throughout the whole year. After two poor rounds, we thought, with my team that we are not able to win anything more. I just don't know how it happened that I got 15 points in Vojens - it was kind of a test day and I managed to win. In Chorzów, I simply had nothing to lose. I dedicate this win to my uncle, who's no longer with us. He had the biggest influence on my career and he's the one who I would like to thank for the most - Michelsen - new Individual Speedway European Champion 2019 said.
