Drabik with the wild card in Chorzów

Share on:

Individual Speedway Junior World Champion 2017 - Maksym Drabik will start in the fourth round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2019 at the Śląski Stadium in Chorzów (Poland). Polish rider received a wild card for this meeting.

Drabik is the most effective U21 rider in both PGE Ekstraliga and Swedish Elitserien. In Poland, rider representing Betard Sparta Wrocław has been getting 2,069 points per heat (11th in the league) and in Sweden this average has been even higher with 2,171 points per hea (7th in the league). For Poland National Team's rider, current season is the last one racing as junior. Drabik has already reached for five world champion titles in U21 category (four with the team and one individual) and two medals in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations (silver and bronze).

His spectacular performances couldn't go unnoticed among the speedway community and it led organizers to handing him the wild card for the fourth round of TAURON SEC in Chorzów. As he says, he takes every meeting he's part of very seriously and at the Śląski Stadium, he will be all about getting the top score.

- While going to the meeting and taking any kind of action related with it, it's worth focusing on every single heat. I am the type of racer, who always wants to show his best, give something to the fans and most importantly to myself. Round in Chorzów does promise to be a phenomenal one. It's also a great chance for me, to keep my disposition, because right now I'm done with racing in Sweden and Polish league is also coming to an end. TAURON SEC is a very interesting event and I will surely be working on my bikes and myself, to provide some great racing there.

Last year's final of Individual Speedway European Championship at the Śląski Stadium gained an attendance of 30000 people watching it live from the stands. And now, because of small distances in the overall classification plus Kacper Woryna and Bartosz Smekała having chances to jump on the podium, it should be similar. In the last year's edition, we had some memorable highlights with fans cheering at the stands after Poles' wins. Maksym Drabik admits that even with having a huge concentration on his on and off-track duties, he does hear the support of the crowd.

- I keep a high level of focus on myself, my bikes and on things that are crucial at the specific moment, but under the helment, you can hear it all. When I'm getting back to the pits, taking my helmet off, cool down a bit, I hear this support clearly. Fans create a great atmosphere. I think that without them, this pushing, it would not look so attractive and beautiful. Fans are the core of it and what we can do is to deliver a great show.

For former Individual Junior Speedway World Champion, starting in Chorzów will be another chance to compete at the one-day track. Polish rider admits that practice and getting to know geometry of this track will be crucial.

- These kinds of tracks are acting very specifically under the wheel. They're not easy tracks. You need to stay vigilant while making any kind of decision. Practice and getting the knowledge about the surface are extremely important. At these kind of stadiums, even air is different. I think that just like any rider, I need some time to adjust.

Final round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2019 is planned on 28th of September 2019 at the Śląski Stadium in Chorzów. Tickets are available at, and
