Hampel: I want to fight for the the championship, but I actually assess the situation

Share on:

"If it was not the injury that happened to me at the beginning of the season, I would probably be in a completely different place," says Jarosław Hampel, European runner-up 2018. The Pole is not in top form yet, but he believes that he will play equipment and will be able to fight for the top places in the SEC 2019 cycle.

A year ago, Jarosław Hampel became the runner up in Europe. The appetite for the gold medal is still in the 37-year-old slagger Fogo Unia Leszno. - I want to fight. It is known that I will start with a desire to compete for top positions. Realistically, however, I approach the subject and realize that maybe I am not in top form yet. However, all this can change. I do not want to justify myself completely, I only realistically assess the situation. I will fight for sure for the highest laurels - said Jarosław Hampel.

The tracks on which the SEC cycle takes place Jarosław Hampel has already met. - I hope that I will be smarter and I will go better at the Guestrow facility than last year. I also know the circuit at Vojens, although I have not competed there for a long time. Toruń is known. Today, when it comes to equipment, everything is possible. Of course you have to add a sports form to this, you can win at any moment, but also lose. It's hard to predict anything that can happen in the SEC cycle. For sure I will want to very solidly approach performances for the title of European champion - assures the current runner-up of the Old Continent.

For Jarosław Hampel in the 2019 SEC season he remained the number one target when it comes to individual starts. Earlier he was eliminated from the rivalry for returning to the Grand Prix. Nor did he advance to the finals of the Individual Polish Championships. - It is definitely my number one in terms of individual starts. The remaining eliminations have failed. The SEC has left me, which I will treat as any competition - very seriously. We will see how much I will be able to fight. I keep chasing that head that escaped me all the time. My colleagues had one and a half months more time than me. I lost five weeks due to injury. It was a very important time, the more that after 15 years I changed from Jan Andersson's equipment to the great engines of Ryszard Kowalski, which I need to learn and adapt - emphasizes Hampel.

Recall that the runner-up of Europe contracted a shoulder injury during the elimination of the Golden Helmet in Ostrów at the beginning of the season. "It's a problem because five weeks have escaped. I've lost the time I'm trying to make up for, but it's not easy. Not only did I not drive, I also get to know the engines from Ryszard Kowalski. Switching to engines from another tuner is a completely different philosophy of matching this equipment. If we add almost a 1.5-month break, then it looks like it's still looking for a form - explains the representative of Poland.

Nevertheless, Jarosław Hampel counts on good performances at the SEC. - The rate is very strong. Just look at the names. They are impressive. The competition will be at a very good sports level. As I mentioned, I want to join the fight for the highest goals and I hope that I will manage the form and hardware matters for the beginning of the competition for the title of the European champion - Fogo Unia Leszno finished.
