Zbigniew Boniek is one of the best Polish football players. He is also one the hundred best players in the World football according to FIFA. He has been the president of Polish Football Association since 26th October 2012. Boniek has never denied that his great passion is also speedway. He comes from Bydgoszcz, the city where Tomasz Gollob was born. Polish World Champion because of great respect for Boniek has chosen #20 on his plastron which he will have in Speedway European Championships. The president of Polish Football Association had some time to tell us about his memories connected with Tomasz Gollob.
The 2013 European Champion is preparing for the new season. Slovak is really optimistic about the idea of choosing the starting numbers by the riders –" It’s really good idea. Every rider has lucky and favorite number which he would like to have on his back while he is riding. It can be a kind of talisman. It is also very good way of popularizing speedway and a rider. When you ask fans about the number 46, their first association are connected with Valentino Rossi. The number of a rider is like his second name. This is really it, I’m really happy with this idea."
Nicki Pedersen chose the number with which he will start in Speedway European Championships. Vice – European Champion 2013 confirmed that there will be number #5 on his plastron. It is worth to add that “five” will be also present on other parts of the rider’s kevlar.
Another rider chose a number to compete in Speedway European Championships. 2013's bronze medalist, Russian, Grigory Laguta ultimately chose number # 111. "Grisha" reacted very positively to this possibility, noting that similar things take place in the motocross competition, Moto GP and F1.
The symbol of Polish speedway Tomasz Gollob assured that he will start in Speedway European Championships this season with the number #20. Pole explains that he has chosen that number as a form of respect for one of the best Polish football players current president of Polish Football Association Zbigniew Boniek.
Emil Sayfutdinow has already chosen the number which he will have In 2014 in Speedway European Championships series. Russian, who won two tournaments of SEC last year, will start with number #89 on his plastron.
In 2014 season the riders who will start in SEC will have the possibility to choose the number which will be on their plastron. So far the riders in all tournaments had number which were given to them obligatory by the organizers. This situation is changing this year – fifteen riders of SEC series is going to start with the number chosen by themselves.
Michael Jepsen Jensen didn’t have an occasion to start in Speedway European Championships last season but Dane is really impressed by this event. - I think it’s good for speedway to do such big events like the European Championship. It’s good to develop speedway, to get some other good and famous TV which covers meetings. It is a real chance for the riders, sponsors and everyone.
These are the last hours of 2013 which was really busy but also very successful. We got a chance to present the new formula of Individual European Championships. Radosław Zieliński: SEC 2014 first round will be organised in Germany. How do You feel with that idea?
Torsten Juern: I think that the 2013 SEC series was a huge success and has drawn much interest in Germany. Due to the fact that you could see it live in free TV on Eurosport many people who normally don't attend any Speedway meetings watched it and realized what a great sport it is. For many years years you could not see any Speedway on TV in Germany but thanks to One Sport and Eurosport it is different now.
European Champion Martin Vaculik is preparing himself for Christmas. However Slovak had some time to tell about traditions which are present in typical Slovakian home, also about the place of Christmas in his heart and he wishes all the fans Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The organizers of Speedway European Championships have officially announced the place of the first round of SEC in 2014. The best riders in Europe is starting their rivalry for the European Champion title in German town Guestrow. It will take place on the 6th of July 2014.
